I received a test headset

Welcome to EHS VR!

If you’ve just received your test headset, this quick guide will help you get everything up and running. Inside the box, you’ll find a Meta Quest headset preloaded with our VR training applications: no additional setup required.

Here you’ll find clear, practical instructions and short videos guiding you through each step, from turning on the headset and adjusting the volume, to launching the EHS Academy app and starting your first session. Follow them step by step, or jump directly to the topic you need, and you’ll be ready to explore EHS VR in just a few minutes.

Quick start

Turning on the headset

• Locate the power button on the right side of the headset.
• Press and hold it for about 3 seconds.
• The Meta Quest logo will appear, which means your headset is starting up.

Adjusting the volume

• Look underneath the headset.
• You’ll find two buttons: plus (+) and minus (–).
• Press plus (+) to increase the volume.
• Press minus (–) to decrease it.

Using hand tracking

• Hold your hands out in front of you: the headset will automatically recognize them.
• Point your thumb and index finger toward the screen or menu.
• A white dot will appear: this is your cursor.
• To click or select, tap your thumb and index finger together.

Opening the main menu (Oculus gesture)

• If the main panel doesn’t appear right after startup, use the Oculus gesture:
  1. Turn your hand toward yourself, as if looking at your phone.
  2. Bring your thumb and index finger together in a single motion.
• If the panel still doesn’t appear, hold your fingers together a little longer.
• The image will then automatically recenter.

Launching the EHS Academy app

• Look at the bottom-right corner of the main menu.
• Select the Apps Library icon.
• Find EHS Academy in the list.
• Click to launch the application.

Setting up the safety boundary (Guardian)

This is a very important step: it ensures the application runs safely.

1. Open the main menu using the Oculus gesture (see “Opening the main menu” above).
2. Click Quick Settings (the icon showing Wi-Fi, battery and time in the upper-right corner).
3. Select the Boundary tile.
4. When prompted, choose Set up a new boundary.

Important: Set up the boundary after launching the EHS Academy application. This ensures the boundary matches your real position and interaction area inside the app.

You’ll now have two options:

• Stationary Boundary – automatically creates a circular safety area around you. Recommended if you’re sitting in one place. Make sure the boundary isn’t too close to walls or furniture.
• Room-Scale Boundary – lets you manually define your safety area. Walk around the room to “draw” your boundary. Avoid cabinets, desks, and chairs. Make sure there are at least 4 m² (about 2 × 2 m) of clear, safe space around you.

Tip: The boundary activates only when you move outside of it, so keep it slightly away from walls and objects.

Returning to the application

After setting up the safety boundary, perform the Oculus gesture again (hand toward yourself, tap thumb and index finger together) to return to the application.

Centering the view

• Look at your left hand: you’ll see a virtual watch.
• Tap and hold the gear icon (Settings) at the bottom.
• Then select the arrows icon.
• Stand in the center of your safety boundary.
• Press and hold the arrows icon to recenter your view.

Selecting the language

• On the right side of the main panel, find the language selection option.
• Click it and choose your preferred language.

Starting the training

• Select a training module and click Next.
• In the student selection window, click Next again.
• Choose the course you want to complete.
• Finally, click Play in the bottom-right corner to begin your training.

How the application works

• During training, you’ll hear a voice guide leading you step by step through each task.
• To grab an object, reach out and close your fists around it.
• Do not walk around physically.
• To move within the virtual world, use teleportation buttons that appear in front of you.
• If something is slightly out of reach, take a small step forward carefully.

Hint system

• Look at the watch on your left hand.
• If you’re unsure what to do, press and hold the question mark icon.
• A voice or visual hint will appear to guide you through the next step.

More options on the watch

By tapping the gear icon at the bottom of the watch, you can access extra features:

• Restart Course – restarts the training from the beginning.
• Return to Training Menu – takes you back to the main screen.
