Home BLS VR training – learn CPR and life-saving techniques.

About the training

BLS at Home VR Training immerses participants in a realistic household scenario where they encounter an unconscious person. The objective is to check vital functions, call emergency services, and place the casualty in the recovery position.

The simulation uses speech recognition to enable realistic interaction with the rescue team, reinforcing confidence and communication skills in critical moments. This module prepares users to handle emergencies at home calmly and effectively, ensuring they know how to react when every second counts.

Training Program

Training Objectives

The goal of the training is to teach participants the procedures to follow when dealing with an unconscious person who still has vital signs, according to the 2021 ERC guidelines. During the training, participants will have the opportunity to practice the correct way of positioning a person in the recovery position using VR technology. The application features a virtual rescuer who explains each step of the procedure, offering support at every stage of the simulation.

Participants

The training is aimed at:

  • Children: From the age of 8, primary school students, as part of early school education or extracurricular activities;
  • Adults: People with no medical background who want to learn the basic principles of first aid;
  • Employees working in a hybrid system;
  • Participants in initial and periodic occupational health and safety (OHS) training.

Training Program Outline

Part I – Introduction (5 minutes)
Introduction provided by the trainer before starting the VR simulation:

  • Overview of the procedure for dealing with an unconscious person with vital signs:
    • Assessing the safety of the scene,
    • Checking the victim’s responsiveness,
    • Assessing breathing for 10 seconds (observation, listening, feeling for breath),
    • The importance of positioning the person in the recovery position and notifying emergency services.
  • VR Application Presentation:
    • Explaining the hand tracking feature, including how to grab objects in the virtual space,
    • Explaining the speech recognition feature, allowing natural interaction with the system.

Part II – Practical Exercises using the VR Application (5 minutes)
Carried out in the VR environment:

  • Situation Assessment:
    • Analyzing the safety of the scene in the virtual environment (e.g., on the street, in a house).
  • Checking the victim’s condition:
    • Applying the “shake and shout” method to assess responsiveness.
  • Breathing assessment:
    • Observing chest movements and checking the victim’s breathing.
  • Notifying emergency services:
    • Simulating a conversation with the emergency operator (112):
      • The participant dials the number on the virtual phone,
      • The operator asks questions about location, the victim’s condition, and the situation at the scene,
      • The participant provides clear and precise answers.
  • Positioning the victim in the recovery position:
    • Step-by-step according to the ERC guidelines:
      • Bending the victim’s arm and leg, tilting the head to maintain an open airway.
  • Monitoring the victim’s condition:
    • The application guides the participant on how to observe and take further actions until help arrives.
  • Interactive feedback:
    • The application provides real-time corrections, pointing out mistakes and suggesting the correct solutions.

Part III – Summary (5 minutes)
Conducted by the trainer after the VR simulation:

  • Exercise analysis:
    • Identifying correct actions and areas needing improvement.
  • Review of key principles:
    • Safety assessment,
    • Breathing check,
    • Notifying emergency services,
    • Positioning in the recovery position.
  • Participant questions and answers.

The training is conducted in a safe VR environment and builds practical skills in realistic conditions, in line with the ERC 2021 guidelines.
